12 ANGRY JURORS

TTHE MOST EXCITING PROJECT I’VE EVER BEEN INVOLVED IN!
Tom Lazarus
directs the iconic drama of the deliberation of a jury following a murder trial.  The conflicts that arise remain as relevant today as when this was written in the 1950s.  Produced for the Group Rep Theatre by Stevie Stern.  January 26 through March 3, 2024 at the Group Repertory Theatre, 10900 Burbank Bl., North Hollywood. For reservations and tickets, visit thegrouprep.com.

“Beware of the fireworks that ensue. If you’re wondering about the verdict, you’ll have to come and see this well written, carefully directed, beautifully performed, and thought-provoking play. It remains fascinating and relevant to today’s world, and it’s one of the Group Rep’s best productions.” SPLASH.COM

“The Group Rep (GRT) hits it out of the park yet again with their thrilling, nerve-wracking and highly entertaining  production of the American classic. You will be on the edge of your seat! Every actor delivers compelling, believable characters, all gorgeously full of flaws and on their own unique journeys.

The set is brilliant as usual, the stage set as if through a camera lens, like a frame from the original 35 mm print. In sepia, the heat of the day radiating off the stage, every second focused on the only conclusion possible for a reasonable mind to make. BRAVO GRT!!!! LOVED IT!!!” = NOHO ARTSs

Twelve Angry Jurors‘ is one of the best ensemble productions I have seen in a while. You would think with a cast this size some characters could get lost in the shuffle, however, director Tom Lazarus has made you feel as though you are the 13th juror on this remarkable case.

CREATIVE DIFFERENCES – Writer/Director

A short play part of the Route 66 Festival.

Quoting a North Hollywood Theater Critic: “Topping my Top Three list is the show-opening Creative Differences, written and directed by Tom Lazarus, an open-secret-based look back at why Route 66 star George Maharis suddenly found himself replaced mid-series by Glenn Corbett on a road trip across the USA back in 1963.

Terrifically performed by Michael Gambiano, James Lemire, and a particularly charismatic Troy Whitaker, Creative Differences’s look at Hollywood politics, homophobia, and star ego proves so tantalizing, it merits expanding into a full-length winner.”

On the MGM lot in 1929, Greta Garbo, mogul LB Mayer, silent film leading man Ramon Novarro, studio glamour photographer George Hurrell and studio fixer Howard Strickling fight to survive as Hollywood transitions from Silents to Talkies and the imposition of censorship as the country slips into the Depression.

Presently in Workshop at the Playwright’s Unit of EST/LA.

THE PRINCES OF KINGS ROAD – 12 sold out performances.

Born near each other in Vienna, legendary Los Angeles architects Richard Neutra and Rudolph Schindler came to America in the early 1920’s, were employed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and lived and worked together in the Hollywood Hills.

After a tumultuous relationship, they were estranged for 23 years.

In 1953, Schindler takes ill and goes into the hospital.

A week later, by sheer coincidence, a nurse wheels in his new roommate: Richard Neutra.

This is where the new play THE PRINCES OF KINGS ROAD begins.
